What is Predalle?

Predalle is a pre-stressed, pre-cast roofing and flooring panel system manufactured under factory-controlled conditions. Thin, high-strength concrete elements are pre-tensioned with steel strands before casting, then delivered to site ready to place.

Once positioned on their bearings, the panels act as permanent formwork. Additional reinforcement is laid across and between panels, services are co-ordinated, and a second-phase in-situ concrete topping is poured to create a composite structural slab — delivering performance that consistently surpasses equivalent cast in-situ solid slabs.

All panels include: 15 mm chamfered edges, factory-fitted lifting hooks, transversal reinforcement, and an intentionally roughened upper surface — produced to CE marking standards.

Survey & Setting Out

Bearings are prepared and setting-out lines established to ensure accurate panel placement, correct spans, and proper edge conditions.

Panel Placement

Predalle panels are craned into position onto their designed bearings. The lifting hooks allow safe, precise placement without the need for temporary propping.

Rebar & Services

Additional reinforcement is placed across the joints. Electrical conduits, pipes, and embedded services are co-ordinated and fixed in the open zone above the panels.

In-Situ Pour & Cure

The second-phase concrete topping is poured over the panels. The roughened surface creates composite action, forming a robust monolithic slab as the topping cures.

Is Predalle suitable for intermediate floors as well as roofs?

Yes — Predalle is extensively used for both roofing and intermediate floor slabs. Your structural engineer will confirm suitability based on span, design loads, bearing conditions, and interface detailing requirements specific to your project.

Do the panels need temporary propping on site?

For the majority of standard spans, Predalle panels self-support during erection and the topping pour without the need for temporary propping — one of the key programme and cost advantages of the system. Your engineer will confirm this for your specific spans and loads.

How are electrical and mechanical services installed?

The open zone above the panels — before the in-situ topping is poured — provides a clean, accessible space to install conduit, pipes, and embedded services. This is planned in co-ordination with your MEP consultant and structural engineer early in the design process.

How does the roughened top surface create composite action?

The intentionally roughened upper surface creates a mechanical interlock with the second-phase in-situ concrete topping as it cures. Combined with the transversal reinforcement, this creates a composite slab that behaves as a monolithic unit — significantly outperforming non-composite systems.
